What I’ve Learned Wednesday (1/7/20250
I’m a firm believer that a pet’s health, like our own, is a system where physical, mental and emotional well-being are deeply connected.
I have been taking care of Sandy and her family since 2017. The family has changed over the years, but this ole girl keeps going. About 4-5 years ago, she got a new sister, a silly, much younger dog named Sweetie. When Sweetie joined the family, walks became a part of our morning routine that both girls really enjoyed. Well, over the last year or two, Sandy has gotten to where she can’t go on long walks anymore, if she can walk at all. Some mornings I disappoint them by not taking them for a walk, but some mornings they’re so excited when I get there that I suit them up and we walk all of 2-3 doors down then come back. It’s all Sandy needs to be worn out, but it’s also all she needs to be happy. Now Sweetie could go a mile or two, but neither of them like to be separated so I dare not take Sweetie and leave Sandy. No, this very short walk was enough to fulfill their desires. Now this is my own take from what I’ve experienced over years of having my own pets as well as caring for others…
Physical is the food, water, shelter and medical care.
Mental is keeping them active and productive.
Emotional is the feeling of being loved and valued.
That’s just the jest of it. Anyway, it sounds a lot like what we as humans need too, huh?
I just had to capture this moment after Sandy and Sweetie's short walk. I could just feel the joy and contentment coming from Sandy.
Until next time.
Give your critters extra loves for me.
